Dear Colleagues

We would love to invite you all to join us for the BSPD annual conference 2022 in Sheffield. As a city well known for its cutlery and steel trade, our conference venue is the Grade II* listed Cutlers’ Hall, home to The Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire. We will have exclusive use of this historic city centre building during the conference allowing us to run parallel sessions and provide space for those who wish to be in a less crowded environment or who wish to bring young children with them.

The conference will be the first to explore the use of a shortened event with the Teacher’s Branch study day on Wednesday 14th September and the main conference sessions on Thursday 15th and Friday 16th September 2022. Our conference theme is “Rights from the Start” with our sessions inspired by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. Our speakers will cover safeguarding and promoting wellbeing, decision making in paediatric dentistry, current research summaries and, crucially important to children, eating, sleeping and playing!

In planning our programme we’ve taken note of feedback from previous conferences where delegates have requested more content relevant to day-to-day practice in the community and general dental services. So we have dedicated a session where we’ve asked our speakers to help equip delegates to make the best possible treatment plans for everyday dental decisions.

Of course, there will be the usual social events with the Angel of the North Quiz on Wednesday 14th September and the Gala Dinner on Thursday 15th September plus other activities throughout the programme. And finally, in what we think will be a first for a dental conference, cartoonist and comedy writer Harry Venning will be capturing the conference by live cartooning.

We hope that this will give you all the opportunity to see old friends and meet new friends face-to-face as we celebrate BSPD’s 70th anniversary.
